As our Lead Counsel - Rare Diseases EUCAN, you will provide high quality legal support to the Rare Diseases EUCAN (Europe & Canada region) Business Unit, covering 3 franchises (Hematology, HAE & Transplant and Rare Metabolic Diseases).


You will have dedicated focus on reviewing promotional/non-promotional materials for the EUCAN (Europe-Canada) and GEM (Growth & Emerging Markets) regions, as well as owning contracts involving HCP/HCOs and Patients Organizations.


You will operate effectively in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment. Collaborate with Ethics & Compliance, Medical, Public Affairs, Advertising & Promotion, and other groups to ensure robust, integrated, and complete business counselling.


NOTE: THIS POSITION IS LIMITED TO 80% WORKLOAD / PENSUM

Key Accountabilities:



  • Provides general legal support to the EUCAN BU Rare Diseases Group covering 3 franchises: Rare Hematology, Hereditary angioedema (HAE) & Transplant, Rare Metabolic Diseases

  • Has the main responsibility for performing the legal review of promotional and non-promotional materials for the 3 franchises for both regions EUCAN (Europe-Canada) and GEM (“Growth & Emerging Markets”) ; collaborates effectively with other key stakeholders (Medical Affairs, Advertising & Promotion, Commercial)

  • Has the main responsibility for drafting and reviewing grants, donations and sponsorship agreements, and other types of agreements involving HCP/HCO and Patients Organizations

  • Organizes legal onboarding and legal training for clients

  • Acts as first contact to the Business for basic privacy questions

  • Supports the Head Counsel Rare Diseases in strategic projects

  • Monitors change of legislation relevant for orphan drugs, in particular EU law

  • Analyze legal and commercial risks and effectively advise key company stakeholders on managing such risks considering Takeda’s values-based mission and in compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and ethical codes

  • Partners with Ethics & Compliance, Patients Services, Public Affairs, and other key stakeholders to ensure compliant interaction with patients, patient organizations, with healthcare professionals, governments, and MOHs across the EUCAN region

  • Collaborates and support Country lawyers in the local implementation of strategic projects driven from the EUCAN region

  • Liaises and collaborates with the EUCAN lawyers responsible for GI, Oncology and Vaccines


Education, Behavioural Competencies and Skills



  • Strong preference for prior experience in top-tier law-firm

  • 2-3 years of relevant post-qualification legal experience in pharmaceutical/life sciences sector, gained at a top-tier law firm or in-house position.

  • Experience in EU law and ability to work under different national laws

  • Knowledge of GDPR and privacy law, CIPP-E certification would be a plus

  • Experience in orphan drugs and patients services (home services) and experience in diagnostics solutions would be an advantage

  • Experience in supporting novel digital initiatives/solutions and medical devices would be an advantage

  • Ability to work independently, while also performing as a team player

  • High level of skill in handling complex issue management and applying critical thinking

  • Attention to detail and ability to explain complex matters in an understandable, simple way with concrete recommendation for the clients


Additional Information:


This position is limited to 80% workload.
