The Genetic Diversity Centre (www.gdc.ethz.ch) at ETH Zürich is an established knowledge and technology platform and provides scientific and technical support for research related to genetic and genomic analyses in a wide range of primarily non-model organisms.
In collaboration with the plant ecological genetics group (www.peg.ethz.ch) which explores fundamental and applied questions at the interface between plant ecology, genetics and evolution, we are seeking a highly motivated bioinformatician to strengthen our expertise in genome assembly and annotation. In addition, you will support the GDC bioinformatics team in administration and teaching. The position is initially limited to 2 years and is available upon agreement.
For this versatile position you preferentially have a Master or PhD in bioinformatics or in biology with a strong background in computational biology. Ideally, you bring experience in genome assembly/annotation of non-model organism or a good knowledge in next generation sequencing data analysis coupled with a strong motivation to develop into a genome assembly specialist. You are well-versed in working on a compute cluster and fluent in at least one scripting language. You bring a high degree of flexibility and independence, are motivated and well structured, like to work in a small team and enjoy supporting genome assembly projects of researchers and students. The working language is English but German knowledge is a plus.
