Who We Are

Founded in 2017, Unit8 is a fast-growing Swiss AI and data analytics company dedicated to solving complex problems of traditional industries like automotive, chemical, finance, manufacturing and pharma. We work with some of the biggest organisations in the world to solve the challenges that directly affect their business, be it operations, finance, manufacturing or R&D. Since our foundation, we have successfully delivered more than 50 projects.

Unit8’s mission is to drive the adoption of AI and Data Science in the non-digital industries and to help accelerate their digital transformation. Among its activities, Unit8 dedicates a part of its resources and time on projects that deeply matter to us - that includes collaboration on pro-bono and “engineering for good” cases.

What is this Internship Programme about?

Unit8 is welcoming new interns for our internship programme in Data Engineering! Join us for a 5-6 month paid tailor-made programme starting in September, with direct exposure to clients' needs and opportunities to take part in learning activities such as Reading Groups and Knowledge Sharing Sessions. In addition, all interns will be accompanied by a mentor.

In our team, Big Data Engineers are working with our customers’ Big Data processing platforms, among the most proficient on the market today. Such platforms are able to process a huge amount of data on a daily basis and ensure traceability of data across complex pipelines. As an intern, you will work hand in hand with our more experienced Big Data Engineers and our clients. You will also be directly involved in discussing the client’s needs and issues, and implementing retained solutions. As a result you will be actively participating in enabling our customer’s data processing ability.

In our internship programme, you will have an opportunity to:

Requirements

Are You the team member we are looking for?

As an intern, you are a true member of the team, working on current team priorities, being involved in every aspect of projects.

In order to be successful in this role, you are:

• Proficient in Computer Science and Python (or a language like Java or C)


• Aware of and keen on discovering (Big) Data processing challenges


• Freshly graduated/ finishing your MSc or BSc in CS or related major


• Available at least 4 full days a week (80%)


• A Swiss/EU/EFTA national or holding a valid Swiss work permit

What You’ll Do

Your role can evolve and will depend from our clients’ challenges and internal projects. In general, you will:

• Design, build, maintain, and troubleshoot data pipelines and processing systems that are relied on for both production and analytics applications, using tools like Spark or Airflow.


• Help drive optimisation, testing and tooling to improve data quality.


• Collaborate with other software engineers, ML experts and stakeholders, taking learning and leadership opportunities that will arise every single day.


• Use your technical skills to develop internal infrastructure projects
