The Institute of Molecular Systems Biology at ETH Zurich is inviting applications for a technician to act as lab manager and research technician in the laboratories of Prof Pedro Beltrao and Prof Uwe Sauer. The position is available immediately or by agreement.
The new group of Dr. Beltrao researches the consequences of mutations at organismal level with a focus on mechanisms that perturb protein structure and cellular functions. The group of Prof. Sauer is interested in the quantitative and systems level understanding of metabolism and its regulation. Both groups engage in large scale studies of microorganisms with advanced mass spectrometry and robotics for the quantification of metabolic changes and phenotypic traits.
60% of the position will be dedicated to research activities in the group of Dr. Beltrao with a focus on generation and characterization of S. cerevisiae mutant strains using a combination of CRISPR genome editing technologies and large-scale growth measurements. One of the specific biological areas of focus is the study of the functional relevance of protein phosphorylation. Over 10,000 S. cerevisiae phosphosites have been studied to date with fewer than 10% having a known function. This post holder will contribute to the development and application of technologies that will elucidate the function of eukaryotic protein post-translational regulation.
In the remaining 40% the applicant will be assisting the two labs in their work and dedicate her/his time to lab management activities (e.g. ordering, preventive maintenance, upkeep of the chemical inventory).
